Dave Mieloch

Dave was first introduced to the drumset when his father set up a small practice kit in the basement when he was five.  His father Joe Mieloch (also a professional percussionist and drumset player) made all the necessary materials available for Dave to experiment and explore.  As Dave progressed through Middle School and High School he began playing in bands, practicing and becoming more and more serious about the instrument.

At the end of High School he began taking lessons with Temple University Professor Erik Johnson a Jazz and Rock drummer and continued to study with him over the next few years.  Eventually he began studying with Jazz drummer Carl Mattola and expanding his knowledge of rhythmic theory through studying the ancient Indian hand drums called “Tabla” with Lenny Seidman.

In 2003 Dave transferred to West Chester University where he began his classical percussion and drumset training under the direction of Chris Hanning. The classical training helped to focus his technique, hone his reading skills, along with helping to develop an appreciation for playing marimba, vibes, rudimental snare, timpani, and auxiliary percussion instruments. He had the opportunity to write for the percussion ensemble and perform as the Tabla Soloist in his piece entitled "Meditations at Bodh Gaya."

Dave has performed drumset in a variety of different settings from Jazz Combos, to Metal and Jazz groups, to Musical Theatre pits such as Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story".  His current project is a Progressive Metal Band based out of NYC called “Hung,” named after the band’s unique electric violinist “Lyris Hung.”  The reviews and concert schedule are posted below.

Entangling Alliances

Take it from them...

" ...a stellar foray into progressive death metal with a classical twist...In a genre that seems to rely on either blunt force trauma or mind numbing complexity, it's refreshing to hear some death metal that’s actually doing something challenging and different. "
-MetalReview.com

" An epic journey through hell and back "
-TheGoryDetails.net

" The band’s melodies are catchy but never cheesy, hitting that oh-so-hard-to-find sweet spot that pleases both your desires for something familiar and something new, as well as hitting on both brutally heavy and slow, melancholic moments alike... ...Hung is undoubtedly one of the best and strongest bands in the New York City scene today. Progeny is really, really good; if you’re a fan of European-influenced metal you’ll be drawn in right away. Get yourself a copy. "

" Those who look for the exceptional in music instead of just wanting the clobbering-then-done type of stuff should get their hands on this record. "
-Bloodchamber.de

" These guys ought to become a staple of the American death metal scene "
-MetalReview.com

" Be sure to remember the name of this band now, they deserve it. "
MetalStorm.ee

" The alternating between violin and guitar for the band's solos is a very unique trait that is executed extremely well "
-DecoyMusic.com

" Hung has already made its mark in music history; I anxiously await whatever this promising band has in store for us. "
